The Innovation Management Model (WP08)
Connections with other Work Packages (WP07, WP09, WP10 and WP11)
Main Objectives of
RAINOVA Project
- To analyse the existing innovation systems in each of the regions which are represented in the Rainova project (WP07)
- To design an Innovation Management Model (WP08)
- To design action plans for the Regional Innovation Systems (WP09)
- To pilot the Innovation Management Model and Action Plan to ensure that they are fit for purpose (WP10)
- To create a network of regional innovation systems (WP11)
WP08 The Innovation
Management Model (IMM)
According to the general
planning of the project:
•
Start: December, 2012
•
End: October, 2014
•
25
months for its development
The IMM - Index
- Main objective
- General ideas about a Management Model
- Regarding the systematic part of the model
- Regarding the part on generating contexts bringing about innovation
- Regarding the connections between its parts (systematic part - contextual part)
- Regarding the assessment according to the model
- How to implement the model in different types of organizations
- Routines or methodologies to assess, monitor and improve the model
The IMM - Main objective
- To design an Innovation Management Model that, aside from the adaptations required for each organisational and/or regional context, means that the challenge of innovation can be tackled in a more coordinated and intelligent way.
- The Innovation Management Model will contemplate not only the systematic part of innovation (macro-process of innovation) but also the context part that brings about the innovation (culture for innovation).
The IMM - General ideas
Some questions to be answered:
- WHAT IS AN INNOVATION MANAGEMENT MODEL?
- WHO IS THE RAINOVA MODEL FOR?
- WHY DO WE THINK A NEW MODEL IS NEEDED?
- IN WHICH WAY WILL OUR MODEL BE DIFFERENT?
- WHAT DO WE UNDERSTAND BY MANAGEMENT INNOVATION?
- WHAT IS THE INITIAL HIPOTHESYS?
- WHICH ARE THE PARTS/ELEMENTS THAT MAKE UP A MANAGEMENT MODEL?
The IMM The systematic
part
Some questions to be answered:
- Macro-Process of Innovation Management
- Processes / Routines for Innovation (Identification / Description / Development)
- Processes and routines in Action (Tools and Methodologies)
The IMM The context part
(Culture for Innovation)
Some questions to be answered:
- Culture for innovation – Environment for innovation
- Factors that determine an environment for innovation:
(Identification / Description / Development)
3. Cultural Factors in Action: (Tools
and Methodologies)
The IMM - Connections
between its parts (systematic part / contextual part)
Some questions to be answered:
- Relation between processes or routines
- Relation between processes and cultural factors
- Graphical representation of the management model and its elements
The IMM - Assessment
according to the model
Some questions to be answered:
- Assessment according to the model: (Initial / Interim / final)
- Criteria for assessing the initial situation of an organization, in terms of innovation management (baseline)
- Rules for evaluating the "goodness" of approaches and deployments in the management of innovation (what we do and how we do it)
- Rules for evaluating the "goodness" of the results of innovation management (what we get)
- Innovation indicators within an organization:
- The innovation scoreboard (a proposal of innovation indicators)
The IMM - How to
implement the model
Some questions to be answered:
- HOW TO IMPLEMENT THE MODEL IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF ORGANIZATIONS -> In relation with the WP10
The IMM - How to assess, monitor and improve the model
Some questions we have to answer,…
- ROUTINES OR METHODOLOGIES TO ASSESS, MONITOR AND IMPROVE THE MODEL -> In relation with the WP10 and WP11
The IMM - How will we be
operating
We propose the following methodology:
Taking into account the results of research conducted in WP07, and the study of different models of innovation management and our experience:
Taking into account the results of research conducted in WP07, and the study of different models of innovation management and our experience:
- We will develop each part of the model
- Then, we will send the proposals to the group
- Give some time for suggestions
- Collect the recommendations
- Re-elaborate the initial proposal and, finally,…
- Contrast this with a small group of partners with experience in innovation management, for its final approval.
This routine will be repeated for every part of the model
About the WP07 - RESEARCH
1
Highlight the different regional
innovation systems (to make them more explicit)
- STAKEHOLDERS - profiles
- ROLES that the stakeholders play (aims / services offered, target audience / …)
- INTERACTIONS among the STAKEHOLDERS: kinds of relations / depth of the relations / quality of the relations / degree of shared objectives / existence of a common strategy / …
- OTHER REGIONAL RESOURCES: laws / programs / grants / plans / …
- MEASUREMENT and EVALUATION of the performance of the RISs: INPUT indicators / OUTPUT indicators / Evolution of the RISs / …
About the WP07 - RESEARCH 2
From a MACRO point of
view, focusing on the Regional Innovation Systems represented in the
Project.
- Identification of the STAKEHOLDERS that make up the Regional Innovation Systems (RISs)
- Analysis of the profile of the STAKEHOLDERS in each region
- Analysis of the relations of the said STAKEHOLDERS
- Analysis of the performance of the Regional Innovation Systems (input indicators / intermediate indicators / final indicators)
- Analysis of the laws, policies, strategies and existing programs, regarding the start up and support to the innovation
- Classification of the STAKEHOLDERS: profiles and roles they carry out in each region
From
the above, we can deduce …
- To take a “picture” of each IRS
- A comparative analysis of each of the participating regions
- Acknowledgement of best practices
Stemming
from this analysis, the project will offer,…
- The report as deliverable
- Key factors
- Deficiencies
- Best practices
- A set of guidelines and recommendations addressed to the regional decision takers and policy makers
About the WP07 - RESEARCH
3
• From a MICRO perspective, and based on the findings of
innovation management experts and other innovation related staff, information
is obtained on how to approach innovation in the organization sector
(Appendix1) and on examples and best innovation practices in assessed
organizations (Appendix2)
• Relevant information
for WP08 will be mainly obtained from this MICRO analysis
About the WP09 and WP10 -
Action Plan and Piloting the experience 1

- Identification of STAKEHOLDERS (governmental institutions / Schools / Business Associations and others,…)
- Information and guidance is given for:
- Policies
- Programs
- Strategies
- Etc.
About the WP9 and WP10 - Action
Plan and Piloting the experience 2
At a MICRO level
(WP10)
- Identification of typologies of organizations
- Sample selection
- Presentation - Training on the Model
- Situation Analysis

About the WP11 - RAINOVA
Network
Some objectives of the
RAINOVA Network
- To update the survey on regional innovation systems.
- To disseminate, improve and evolve the innovation management model.
